Is it dangerous for kids to get an EEG?

EEG is a harmless and non-invasive clinical test, so it is not harmful to children. It is an important clinical test for the diagnosis of epilepsy, as it only involves the use of electrodes clipped to the scalp to determine whether or not there are spikes in the brain waves within the skull. If spikes are detected, the patient is considered to have epilepsy, and regular oral antiepileptic medication is required. In children, there is a type of seizure called a catatonic seizure, in which the patient is playing and suddenly freezes for a few seconds and then relieves himself. This type of brain wave can be characterized by 3Hz spike waves, so children should also have a complete EEG, which is not harmful.
