What are the complications of hepatic cysticercosis?

Common complications of hepatic cysticercosis include cyst rupture, cyst necrosis, shock, and heart failure. Hepatic cysticercosis is a lesion caused by cysticerci in the liver. Hepatic cysticercosis can lead to liver damage and cause compression symptoms, including pressure on blood vessels and bile ducts, which usually cause jaundice, weakness, pain in the liver area, and weight loss. Hepatic cysticercosis can form cysts in the liver, which can lead to a series of complications, such as rupture of the cysts leading to bleeding and shock; necrosis of the cysts leading to infection causing fever, abdominal pain, and infectious shock; and if the cysts are huge, they can lead to the formation of arteriovenous fistulas, which can cause an increase in the amount of blood returning to the heart and aggravate the heart’s burden, leading to heart failure and even life-threatening conditions. Hepatic cysticercosis after diagnosis usually need to give surgical treatment, but also need to give anti-parasitic drug treatment. It is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment if liver cysticercosis is present.
