What to do about ankle bulges

The main causes of ankle bulge, also known as ankle swelling, are cysts, effusion, sprains, etc. Physical therapy, medication and surgery are given depending on the cause. Ankle bulging and swelling should be preceded by an ancillary examination to determine whether it is a soft tissue problem or a bony structure. 1. Ankle cysts: Ankle joints may have cysts due to chronic persistent injuries, infections, and post-traumatic complications. For less serious cysts in the ankle joint, localized physical therapy and oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can be used for conservative treatment. If the cyst is too large or affects normal work and life, surgery is recommended to remove the cyst. 2. Ankle joint effusion: the presence of fluid in the ankle joint may also lead to visible swelling of the ankle joint, the treatment is similar to that of hip cysts, and conservative treatment is the mainstay, physical therapy and the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen as prescribed by the doctor. 3. Ankle sprain: Inflammatory reaction caused by ankle sprain will lead to swelling of the ankle joint. If the pain is obvious and interferes with the movement, it may be a serious misalignment of the joint. It is recommended that further examination be supplemented with appropriate conservative or surgical treatment. Swelling of the ankle joint should go to the hospital in a timely manner, complete the examination and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
