How to treat ankylosing spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic progressive inflammation of the spine, usually early patients are mainly treated with general therapy and medication, and patients with ankylosis or severe deformity of the spine or large joints such as hips and knees in the late stage can be relieved of their condition by surgery.
1. General treatment: Early ankylosing spondylitis patients should take regular exercise, correct bad standing, sitting and lying postures, sleep on hard beds and low pillows, and avoid overloading and strenuous exercise. For areas with redness, swelling and inflammation, ice can be used to apply cold compresses to relieve the condition.
2. Medication: patients can use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, diclofenac sodium, etc., as well as salicylazosulfapyridine, methotrexate, etanercept, infliximab and other medications under the guidance of the doctor for treatment.
3. Surgical treatment: For patients who have no obvious effect of conservative treatment or those who have ankylosis or serious deformity of the spine or large joints such as hip and knee, surgical treatment can be carried out by way of total hip arthroplasty, spinal osteotomy, spinal orthopedic surgery, etc. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions strictly.
It is recommended that patients strictly follow the doctor’s prescription of medication, do not change the dose of medication without authorization or abuse the medication privately, so as not to affect the therapeutic effect, pay attention to the warmth of the affected joints in life, avoid being cold, and regular follow-up.
