Can epilepsy caused by viral encephalitis be cured?

Epilepsy caused by viral encephalitis may be cured after active treatment.
For epilepsy caused by viral encephalitis, the first step is to actively treat the primary disease, which can be treated with antiviral drugs such as ribavirin and vasiclovir, and antiepileptic drugs are given to treat epileptic seizures symptomatically. After the intracranial lesions gradually decrease and disappear, epilepsy can be cured after a period of antiepileptic treatment in some patients.
A small number of patients with more serious conditions and severe destruction of brain parenchyma may not be able to be cured, and need long-term oral antiepileptic drug treatment. For those with poor drug control, surgical treatment such as resection of epileptic foci is feasible.
Patients with epilepsy caused by viral encephalitis are advised to standardize the use of medication under the guidance of a physician, and not to blindly reduce or stop medication to avoid aggravation of the condition.
