How long to wear braces

Braces are generally worn for about 1-2 years, and the exact length of time they are worn is determined by a variety of factors such as the condition of the teeth, the age of the patient, and the type of braces. First of all, the degree of malocclusion is the decisive factor to determine the period of wearing braces. The more serious the degree of malocclusion, the longer the period of wearing braces, in order to better ensure the effect of orthodontic treatment. For patients with malocclusion, the principle of early treatment should be followed. Because compared with adults, the skeletal system of adolescents is still in the process of growth and development, through timely orthodontic treatment, the orthodontic treatment effect can be achieved more quickly. Therefore, if the periodontal condition is good, the period of wearing braces for children is about 1 year, while adults need to wear about 1.5-2 years. Then there are braces according to the type, including steel braces, invisible braces, braces without brackets and so on. The wearing period varies from one type of braces to another. During the period of braces treatment, patients should minimize the consumption of hard and highly sticky foods, and pay more attention to oral cleaning care to avoid excessive growth of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms in the oral cavity.
