Do you need a urinary catheter for a choledochal cyst?

A urinary catheter is usually required during surgery for choledochal cysts. Choledochal cysts are congenital lesions that can only be relieved by medication. Surgery is usually required to remove the choledochal cysts intact to minimize complications and avoid development of cancer. During the removal surgery of choledochal cysts, a urinary catheter is usually required because the surgery needs to be performed under general anesthesia and the patient does not have the consciousness of urinating on his/her own. If the operation takes a long time, it can lead to urine stagnation and may even lead to bladder rupture. Therefore a urinary catheter should be inserted to prevent increased pressure in the bladder. The diet after choledochal cyst surgery should be light, with more high protein and high vitamin foods, and appropriate exercise.
