The No. 1 Chinese medicine for strengthening the spleen, is it really effective?

There is no basis for the claim that “the first proprietary Chinese medicine for strengthening the spleen”. The proprietary Chinese medicines that can be used for strengthening the spleen are Astragalus Jianzhong Pill, Xiangsha Liujun Pill, and Ginseng Ling Baijushu San, etc., which need to be used according to the type of evidence after identification.
1. Astragalus Jianzhong Pill: composed of astragalus, cinnamon, white peony, licorice and jujube, it has the effect of tonifying qi and dispersing cold, strengthening the stomach and harmonizing the middle. It is used for the treatment of symptoms such as deficiency of middle qi (weak spleen and stomach qi), palpitation and shortness of breath, malignant cold (fear of cold) and abdominal pain as well as physical weakness caused by deficiency of cold in the spleen and stomach.
Its adverse effects are not known. It is contraindicated in pregnant women and diabetic patients. It is not suitable for patients with fever and cold.
2. Xiangsha Liujun Pill: It is composed of wood sorrel, sand nuts, codonopsis, atractylodes macrocephala, poria and other medicines, which has the functions of benefiting qi, strengthening spleen and harmonizing stomach, and is used for treating spleen deficiency and qi stagnation, dyspepsia and other diseases.
Its adverse reactions are not clear. It is not recommended for pregnant women. Avoid eating cold and greasy food during the period of use; not applicable to those with dry mouth and stool; not applicable to patients with acute gastroenteritis.
3. Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephalae: composed of Poria, Atractylodes Macrocephalae, Licorice, Platycodonopsis, Ginseng, Radix et Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, etc. It is used for the treatment of weak spleen and stomach, loose stools with scanty food, shortness of breath and coughing, and tiredness and fatigue of limbs.
Its adverse reactions and contraindications are not clear. Avoid indigestible food during the period of use; not suitable for patients with cold and fever.
