Post-operative cystectomy care

Regarding the care after cystectomy, we are mainly talking about the care after total cystectomy. Since there is no bladder after radical cystectomy, the urine flow is necessarily diverted, which means that the urine has to be discharged through the stoma on the right side of the abdominal wall, so the care of the right abdominal wall stoma becomes very critical. The right abdominal wall stoma will have a corresponding stoma bag and a sump, which will usually be replaced after discharge from the hospital. The stoma bag and sump can be changed about once a week or so as long as the stoma is clean, and attention should be paid to the skin around the stoma for rashes and other conditions.
