Why are the body temperatures of the two ears different

It is often the case that the temperature of the two ears is not the same in clinical practice. The reasons for this may be the following: First, one ear may be covered by clothes before the child’s temperature is taken, or one ear may be covered while sleeping, which may cause the temperature on that side to be higher than the other side. Second, measurement errors may exist in the left and right ear when the thermometer is measuring, even if the same ear is measured. Third, some patients may have otitis media, tympanitis, acute otitis externa and other related diseases in one ear, which may cause a significant increase in body temperature, while the other ear has no inflammatory infection and the body temperature will be normal, which may also occur. All in all, if you find that the temperature in the two ears is different, it is recommended to repeatedly measure the temperature in the armpit, mouth, anus and other parts of the body several times or at the same time to make a comprehensive determination of whether the patient has a fever.
