Carotid vertebral artery ultrasound precautions

During the carotid ultrasound, it is important to note whether the bilateral vessel diameters are symmetrical and whether there are vessels with abnormal development. It is important to check whether there is any plaque formation in the lumen bilaterally, the size and nature of the plaque, observe whether there is any ulcerated plaque, and check whether the plaque is causing the stenosis of the vessel lumen. If there is a stenosis, the flow velocity at the stenosis must be measured, as well as the flow velocity distal to the stenosis, to see if there is a decrease in the flow velocity distal to the stenosis and if it is affecting the intracranial blood supply. If there is an ulcerated spot, be sure to notify the clinic promptly, as this ulcerated spot can easily dislodge and lead to cerebral infarction. During the ultrasound examination of the vertebral artery, attention should also be paid to whether the diameter of the canal is symmetrical, whether there is congenital dysplasia on one side of the vertebral artery, and whether there is plaque formation in the opening of the vertebral artery and whether it has caused stenosis. During the examination, we should also pay attention to whether the spectrum of the vertebral arteries is normal bilaterally, and if there is a high resistance spectrum, we should pay attention to whether there is stenosis or occlusion of the distal vessels.
