Does it matter if you’re a day late for your third rabies shot?

Delaying the third dose of rabies vaccine by one day usually does not affect the efficacy of rabies vaccine, so there is no need to worry too much and you can continue to receive the rest of the doses according to the program. The rabies vaccine usually requires a total of five doses, one each on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28. If the third dose is delayed by one day, the rabies vaccine scheduled for day 7 is delayed to day 8, which usually has no effect. Repeated rabies vaccinations are designed to stimulate the immune system to produce sufficient antibodies against the rabies virus to maximize immunity. Delaying the third dose by one day does not usually have a significant effect on the immune system, so it is recommended not to be unduly concerned and to continue to follow the original procedure for the remaining two vaccinations.
