Spinal cord injury refers to the transverse damage to the spinal cord caused by various reasons such as trauma, inflammation, and tumor, resulting in dysfunction of motor, sensory, sphincter, and autonomic nerves below the plane of injury, and it is a class of highly disabling and lethal injuries. It is one of the common traumatic injuries in spinal surgery, characterized by high incidence, high disability rate, high cost, low mortality rate, and the patients are mainly young adults, which greatly affects the quality of life of the patients and increases the burden of their families. Acupuncture is one of the effective therapeutic means for spinal cord injury in Chinese medicine. With the deepening of the research on electrical stimulation of nerve regeneration, electroacupuncture or electric field therapy has been used in the treatment of spinal cord injury. Electroacupuncture, as a kind of traditional rehabilitation therapy technique, has been confirmed to be an important means of treatment after many years of clinical practice and experimental research. In the clinical acupuncture treatment of paraplegia caused by spinal cord injury, most of them preferred the electroacupuncture treatment of the Vertebrae or the Clamping Spine Points. The Vertebrae belongs to one of the eight odd meridians, which is the sea of yang veins, and it is the place where the whole body’s yang qi is converged. The spine can regulate the balance of yin and yang in the upper and lower limbs, dredge the qi and blood in the internal organs, electroacupuncture of the dushi vein and spine points for paraplegia, and its efficacy has been clinically proven. In recent years, there have been more studies on the treatment of spinal cord injury with acupuncture, and laboratory studies have confirmed that electroacupuncture can promote the repair of the injured spinal cord by promoting the changes of electric current, spinal cord structure, evoked potentials, enzymes, neurotransmitters, neuropeptides, and some active substances.
