Six Gentlemen Soup has the effect of tonifying the spleen and benefiting qi, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm), and is recommended to be taken under the guidance of a physician for diagnosis and treatment, and not to be used on one’s own.
Six Gentlemen Tang is composed of six herbs: Radix Codonopsis, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Poria, Radix et Rhizoma Gingerae, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae, and is known for tonifying the spleen and benefiting the vital energy, drying dampness and resolving phlegm. It is often used in treating weak spleen and stomach, poor food intake, deficiency of qi and phlegm, distention and fullness in the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen), and loose stools (loose and unformed feces) and diarrhea.
Liu Jun Zi Tang is not suitable for patients with Yin deficiency of the spleen and stomach, which is mainly manifested as dry mouth, red tongue with little fluid and dry stools. Pregnant women should be cautious, avoid eating cold, greasy and indigestible food during the period of using the medicine.
