Infants sleep with eyes open and eyes closed

Infants who sleep with their eyes open and closed are often physiologically affected, mainly because the infant’s nervous system is not yet well developed, while pathologic factors are often seen in diseases such as calcium deficiency, epilepsy and convulsions. If the infant’s symptoms persist without relief, it is recommended to go to the hospital promptly. Physiological factors: Since the infant’s brain nervous system is not yet mature and neurological function is not perfect, most behavioral reactions are mainly completed through subcutaneous central reflexes. When infants are in the light sleep stage, there are still small movements of the eyeballs and eyelids, and they may sleep with their eyes open and rolled and closed, and they are easily awakened at this time. This is usually a normal phenomenon and does not require special treatment. Second, the pathological factors: 1, calcium deficiency: infants lack of calcium, the nervous system development will appear abnormal, muscle excitability will increase, so there will be muscle spasms. Not only will it lead to sleeping with eyes open and eyes closed, it will also be accompanied by symptoms such as crying. It is recommended to take calcium supplements, such as calcium gluconate and calcium lactate, as well as vitamin D to promote calcium absorption; 2. Epilepsy: genetics, trauma, intracranial and extracranial infections may lead to epilepsy in infants, manifesting as general rigidity and sudden disorientation, and if the seizure occurs during sleep, symptoms such as sleeping with eyes open and eyes closed will occur. For infants with clear epileptic foci, hippocampal resection can be performed. Most infants can be treated with antiepileptic drugs, such as phenobarbital, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, etc.; 3. Convulsions: high fever, calcium deficiency, hypoglycemia, intracranial infection, etc. may lead to neonatal febrile convulsions, mainly manifested as convulsions, dilated pupils, sleep with eyes open and closed, often accompanied by urinary and fecal incontinence. It is recommended to apply drugs such as diazepam and clonazepam to relieve the convulsive state. If the infant with high fever needs to be treated first with antipyretic treatment, commonly used drugs such as ibuprofen, and at the same time actively treat the primary disease to control the condition.
