What are the complications after appendectomy?

Complications after appendicectomy mainly include bleeding, incision infection, intestinal adhesions, appendiceal stump inflammation and fecal fistula. 1. Bleeding: it is mainly due to the loose ligation of appendiceal mesentery, causing hemorrhage of mesentery vessels. It is manifested as abdominal pain, abdominal distension and hemorrhagic shock and other symptoms. The key to preventing bleeding is to make sure that the ligature is not loosened during the operation. 2. Incision infection: it is the most common postoperative complication. Intraoperative measures such as strengthening incision protection, incision irrigation, thorough hemostasis and elimination of dead space can prevent incision infection. 3. Intestinal adhesion: with local inflammation, surgical injury, incision foreign body and postoperative bed rest and other reasons can lead to intestinal adhesion, severe cases can lead to adhesive intestinal obstruction. 4. Appendiceal stump inflammation: when the appendiceal stump is retained for too long more than 1cm, or the intestinal stone remains, the stump can be inflammatory recurrence after operation. When the symptoms are more serious, the appendix stump should be removed again surgically. 5. Fecal fistula: rare, usually caused by surgical injury to the intestinal wall, resulting in intestinal contents flowing into the abdominal cavity. Generally after active non-surgical treatment, it can be closed and self-healing, if necessary, surgical treatment. The above are common complications after appendectomy, for different complications prevention and treatment measures are different.
