The symptoms of herpes type 1 are the appearance of several clusters of blisters on the surface of the skin with a flushed base and a clear, thin fluid. If the infection is secondary, small pustules and purulent exudate may appear. If the symptoms are strong, a generalized fever may appear, reaching a maximum of 39°C or higher. Herpes type 1 occurs at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes, such as the mouth and lips, in the case of herpes simplex; for herpes type 2, it is mainly due to sexual transmission and usually occurs in the genital area and buttocks.
