There is no such thing as “the most useful traditional Chinese medicine prescription for liver cancer”. Liver cancer is equivalent to the categories of “liver accumulation” and “cancer” in Chinese medicine. Clinically, the most common Chinese herbal prescriptions for treating liver cancer are Free San combined with Rhubarb and Stinging Worm Pill, Artemisia Incarnata Soup, Sijunzi Soup combined with Wu Pi Drink, Consistent Decoction and so on. 1. Free and Easy San combined with Rhubarb and Hinging Worm Pill. This medicine can be chosen when liver cancer is recognized as liver depression and spleen deficiency, with pain and refusal to be pressed, dullness (no appetite, reduced food intake) and fatigue as the main symptoms. Commonly used drugs include Chai Hu, Angelica sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora, Poria, Fried Atractylodes macrocephala, Mentha piperita, Rhubarb, stinging insects and so on. 2. Artemisia Incarnata Soup. This drug can be chosen when the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma belongs to dampness-heat toxic aggregation syndrome, which is characterized by tingling under the hypochondrium, irritability and bitterness in the mouth. Commonly used drugs include Yin Chen, rhubarb, gardenia and so on. 3. Sijunzi Tang combined with Wupi Drink. Liver cancer diagnosis belongs to spleen deficiency and dampness (the function of spleen is weak and dampness stays) syndrome, with abdominal pain, heavy body and loose stool as the main symptoms, and this medicine can be chosen for treatment. Commonly used drugs include Astragalus, Codonopsis, Fried Atractylodes Macrocephalae, Sang Bai Pi, Ginger Pi, Poria Cocos Pi and so on. 4. Consistent Decoction. This drug can be chosen when liver cancer is recognized as deficiency of yin of liver and kidney (deficiency of yin of liver and kidney), with hidden pain in abdomen, five heart-heat (heat in the heart of both hands and feet, and self-consciousness of heart and chest heat), and less appetite as the main symptoms. Commonly used medicines include Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Fructus Lycii, Maitake, Neem, Tortoise Board and so on.
