What does herpes look like

In the case of herpes simplex, there tends to be a limited cluster of small blisters, which are usually not particularly large in size and are more common around the lip margins, corners of the mouth, and nostrils. Localized blisters are slightly reddened around the periphery and the blisters usually do not fuse. In addition most of them may be preceded by itching symptoms and later tend to have a burning sensation. In the case of genital herpes, most appear on and around the genitalia, such as the scrotum, penis, and perianal area, and in women can appear on the labia, clitoris, vagina, and cervix, also as clusters of small blisters accompanied by a distinct burning or itching sensation. Most of the symptoms are more pronounced in the first episode, and those that recur tend to be mild. In the case of herpes zoster, most appear as clusters of small blisters on a large erythematous area distributed in strips on the chest and back, waist and abdomen, distributed unilaterally along the nerves and generally not exceeding the midline of the body.
