What antibiotics are used to treat Streptococcus pneumoniae

Antibiotics commonly used in the treatment of Streptococcus pneumoniae include: β-lactam (e.g. ceftriaxone), quinolones (e.g. levofloxacin), macrolides (e.g. azithromycin), and peptide antibiotics (e.g. vancomycin) in case of drug-resistant strains. Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram-positive coccus, which can cause lobar pneumonia, bronchitis and other respiratory diseases, and can be given drug sensitivity test to confirm the diagnosis, and after the diagnosis needs to be given timely and standardized antibiotic treatment. Antibiotics commonly used in the treatment of Streptococcus pneumoniae are: β-lactam, such as ceftriaxone of cephalosporins, penicillin of penicillins, such as penicillin G; levofloxacin of quinolones, etc.; erythromycin or azithromycin of macrolides. In case of drug-resistant strains, vancomycin, a peptide antibiotic, can be given for treatment. In mild cases of Streptococcus pneumoniae infection, oral administration is sufficient, but in more severe cases, appropriate antibiotics should be selected for intravenous administration based on drug sensitivity tests. If the patient is not feeling well, he/she should consult a specialist and use the medication reasonably under the doctor’s guidance, so as not to cause serious adverse consequences.
