What kind of patients need to be in the ICU?

A professor’s post “10 lives can’t be exchanged for one of mine” has caught fire. Not to mention how rich the professor is, how much need for high-end medical care, just rely on the CCU does not come out, is indeed a waste of medical resources. It is a kind of ICU (IntensiveCareUnit), which is translated as “Intensive Care Unit” in China and “Intensive Care Unit” in Hong Kong. ccu refers to the intensive care unit specializing in cardiology. Intensive care unit is to admit patients with respiratory, circulatory, metabolic and other systemic failures in internal medicine, surgery and other disciplines, and to focus on their strong respiratory, circulatory, metabolic and other functions of the whole body management. There is a central monitoring station for direct observation of all monitored beds. Each bed occupies a wide area, and the beds are separated by glass or cloth curtains. ICU is mainly for: ① severe trauma, major surgery, and must be continuous close monitoring of vital indicators and supporters; ② need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation; ③ an organ (including heart, brain, lung, liver, kidney) failure or multi-organ failure; ④ severe shock, sepsis and poisoning; ⑤ before and after transplantation of organs to monitor and strengthen the treatment of the patient. Those who need to be supervised and strengthened before and after organ transplantation. After their condition improved, they were transferred back to the general ward. In our spinal surgery specialty, very often cervical spine surgery patients need to stay in ICU for one or two days after surgery, and there are also many old age, or patients who lost too much blood during the surgery, can also be observed in there for one or two days, which is beneficial to the patient’s life and health, and reduces the burden of the surgeon in the postoperative period.
