Being able to eat and sleep like a normal person in advanced stage of hepatocellular carcinoma may be a manifestation of aggravation of the disease, and the presence of hepatic encephalopathy should be assessed firstly. Hepatic encephalopathy is a manifestation of terminal stage in patients with liver malignancy. Patients with hepatic encephalopathy firstly manifest mental abnormalities, which can be manifested as unnoticed personality and behavioral changes, and a sense of euphoria. Patients may show increased speech, ability to eat and sleep, followed by mild personality changes, fluttering tremor, and entering a state of lethargy. Therefore, at this time, we must be alert to the occurrence of hepatic encephalopathy, limit protein intake, and can give lactulose enema treatment, which can remove intestinal toxins, reduce ammonia absorption, and alleviate the clinical symptoms of patients. When patients with advanced liver cancer can eat and sleep, they should consult the hepatobiliary surgery department of regular hospitals for preliminary evaluation of whether there is hepatic encephalopathy.
