How does ultrasonography compare to enhanced CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?

The greatest advantage of ultrasonography is the real-time dynamic scanning (i.e. uninterrupted observation of the entire continuum), whereas CT/MRI is an intermittent tomographic imaging, a feature that helps the physician to make a differential diagnosis of the lesion and to detect more and smaller lesions (especially sub-centimeter tumor lesions). In addition, as a new imaging technique that is non-invasive and free of ionizing radiation, it has great advantages in the evaluation of the efficacy of interventions in the liver or other organs, as it is free of X-ray radiation, can be examined immediately intraoperatively and can be repeated several times in a short period of time, which greatly helps to improve the effectiveness of the treatment and reduces the patient’s pain.
