Snoring, i.e. snoring, is a characteristic noise caused by the vibration of the soft palate due to the impact of the airflow during sleep, which is mostly seen in deviated nasal septum, enlarged tonsils, tongue root fall, obesity and other diseases, and it is necessary to choose the general treatment, surgical treatment, non-invasive positive-pressure ventilation treatment and oral orthodontic device treatment according to the different etiological factors and characteristics of the disease.
1. Nasal septum deviation: The cause of this disease is narrowing of nasal airway, patients are forced to open their mouths to breathe, resulting in snoring symptoms. Nasal septum correction surgery can be used to correct the structural abnormality of nasal cavity and restore normal nasal ventilation.
2. Tonsillar hypertrophy: often due to physiological hyperplasia of tonsils and pathologic hypertrophy caused by chronic tonsillitis, the pharyngeal cavity is blocked and the patient is forced to open the mouth to breathe and expand the airway. The airflow can be directed to the soft palate, followed by snoring. Tonsillectomy can be performed to expand the cross-sectional area of pharyngeal cavity and correct snoring symptoms.
3. Tongue root falling back: the hypertrophied and flaccid tongue root falls back against the posterior pharyngeal wall during sleep, leading to ventilation obstruction, and the symptoms of open-mouth breathing and sleep snoring appear. Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation can be chosen to make the upper airway unobstructed through mechanical pressure, thus preventing the upper airway from collapsing during sleep. Oral appliances can also be chosen to expand the anterior and posterior diameter of the pharyngeal cavity.
4. Obesity: Weight can be reduced through reasonable diet, moderate exercise and surgery to alleviate the risk factors of pharyngeal cavity collapse and narrowing due to fat accumulation.
There are many causes of snoring, so it is necessary to consult a doctor for a systematic examination to determine the cause of the disease and diagnosis, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
