What’s wrong with a white tongue?

Possible clinical causes of white tongue include food staining, oral candidiasis and oral leukoplakia.
1. Food staining: milk tablets, milk powder or other white foods will leave residue on the tongue after eating, which will make the tongue appear white and is a normal physiological change.
2. Oral Candidiasis: This condition refers to primary or secondary infection caused by the pathogenic species of Candida, which will invade the skin, mucous membranes and internal organs of the body, with clinical manifestations such as burning sensation of oral mucous membranes, loss of taste, and change of tongue color.
3. Oral leukoplakia: this condition refers to white patches or plaques occurring in the oral mucosa, which is related to the lack of nutrients and the long-term stimulation of local factors, with clinical manifestations such as the tongue and other parts of the lesion becoming rough, numb and astringent, as well as the appearance of white homogeneous plaques.
If the whiteness of the tongue persists, it is recommended to go to the hospital for targeted treatment.
