Dangshen Shengmian Drink Raise or Lower Blood Pressure

The generic name of Dangshen Shengmai Drink is Shengmai Drink (Dangshen Formula); this product does not have the exact effect of raising (blood) pressure or lowering (blood) pressure within the scope of indications. It is composed of Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae, Radix Ophiopogonis and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, which is effective in benefiting qi, nourishing yin and promoting the production of body fluid, and is useful in treating palpitations and spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, which is aggravated by the slightest movement) resulting from qi and yin insufficiency. The adverse effects and contraindications of Shengmai Drink (Codonopsis Fang) are not clear at present. It should be noted that the drug should be taken before meal and avoid greasy food during the period of taking the drug. Caution should be exercised where there is weakness of the spleen and stomach, vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal distension and loose stools, cough and phlegm, and the drug should not be taken by patients with colds and flu. From the point of view of the efficacy and action of this product, Shengmai Drink (Dangshen Formula) does not have the exact effect of elevating or lowering (blood) pressure. Modern research suggests that the drug may have a certain blood pressure-raising effect, but there is no authoritative evidence of this effect, so the blood pressure-raising or blood pressure-lowering effect of the drug needs to be further clarified. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended to consult a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for standardized treatment under the guidance of evidence-based treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
