What tests should be done for heartburn and sore throat?

When heartburn with a sore throat is present, the burning sensation in the throat can be considered as a result of more severe gastro-oesophageal reflux. Endoscopy and biopsy can be performed at the gastroenterology department to clarify the severity of GERD. The patient’s 24-hour oesophageal pH can be recorded to clarify whether the patient has excessive acid or alkaline reflux in the oesophagus. If the heartburn and sore throat are independent, the cause of the sore throat needs to be further clarified at the ENT department.
