What should I do if I have heartburn after stopping omeprazole?

Omeprazole can be used to treat reflux oesophagitis, with adverse effects such as headache and diarrhoea, and to relieve heartburn. If heartburn occurs after stopping the medication, a follow-up visit is needed to identify the cause, and a change of medication or other medication may be considered, or if heartburn persists, treatments such as anti-reflux surgery may be considered.
