Heartburn may be related to Helicobacter pylori, which may cause peptic ulcers, of which heartburn is one of the manifestations. Therefore, when a patient has heartburn along with upper abdominal distention, anorexia, and acid reflux, and when the doctor determines that there may be a peptic ulcer and other manifestations, then H. pylori testing should be performed.
