Holidays have become a “watershed” for children’s vision development

Summer vacation is finally here, and children are happily planning how to spend this free time happily, but as parents, do not take it lightly, because many ophthalmologists found that: vacation often becomes a “watershed” for children’s vision development. Some children take advantage of the holidays, combining work and rest, pay attention to eye care, the decline in vision has been restored or even improved; but more children do not have the pressure of homework, began to play online games, watching discs, watching TV …… a holiday down, vision significantly reduced, after the start of the school has been unable to see the words on the blackboard in front. Therefore, parents should pay attention to supervise their children’s eye health during the summer vacation, do not let it go. A. Change bad eye habits Bad eye habits are the biggest threat to children’s eyesight. Many children like to lie down and read books, watch TV, not knowing that this easy “enjoy” at the same time, but also incessantly damage the eyes. Some parents don’t feel comfortable letting their children go out to play, so they let their children watch TV and read extracurricular books as a way to rest. If this “rest” is not done properly, it will make the eyes more tired. The right way is to adjust the sitting posture, ensure lighting, and do not read for more than one hour at a time. Do eye exercises or look away at intervals to relax and regulate the tense eye muscles. Do not watch TV too close, preferably 4 to 5 times the diagonal of the TV screen. Second, strengthen outdoor activities Many children like to play computer games, a stay is a few hours, blinking frequency down to every dozen seconds or even two dozen seconds once, while normal people blink once every five or six seconds. During this time, their concentration is so high that they do not secrete enough tears to keep the surface of their eyes moist, resulting in “dry eye” and, in severe cases, even damage to the cornea. Children should be encouraged to do more outdoor activities for 2-3 hours a day to get close to nature and relax in a more open and fresh airy environment. Third, maintain a regular life It is very important to maintain a good rest and a regular life. The eye is undoubtedly the most tender organ in the human body, it is sensitive and easily injured, irregular life and rest is bound to be accompanied by visual fatigue. The diet should be comprehensive and can be supplemented with more vitamins A, B and D. Eat more carrots, fruits, seafood and so on. These foods will be helpful for vision care. Do not be picky eaters. Children who are too picky eaters can also suffer from myopia if they lack certain micronutrients, such as calcium and chromium deficiency, which can affect the normal physiological function of the eyeball wall and change its toughness and formability, stretching the eyeball and increasing the anterior and posterior diameters, leading to myopia or contributing to the deepening of myopia. Parents who notice abnormal vision in their children, such as squinting, head tilting and other bad gaze habits, should promptly take their children to the hospital. The early detection of pseudomyopia is treated with ciliary muscle relaxing drugs, and straight myopia is the only effective means to correct true myopia in children. Of course, the existing keratoplasty lenses and RGP contact lenses can prevent children from wearing frame lenses. Laser lens removal can also be used. There have been many parents who have delayed the best time to treat their children because they don’t want them to wear glasses.
