What’s going on with vaginal wetness?

Vaginal moistening is normal because the vagina secretes some substance that is composed of epithelial cells, white blood cells and normal flora. A certain amount of vaginal secretion has a protective effect on the vagina and besides keeping it moist, it also acts as a bacterial inhibitor. When men and women have intercourse, changes in hormone levels in the body will increase vaginal discharge, which acts as a lubricant. Normal vaginal discharge does not require special treatment, but if there is a significant increase in vaginal discharge or if it is accompanied by abnormal color or taste, inflammatory infections should be considered and a timely examination of the discharge is needed to clarify the cause and provide symptomatic treatment.
