How to treat upper airway cough syndrome

The treatment of upper airway cough syndrome, also known as postnasal drip syndrome, is based on the cause. Common causes include common rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, bacterial sinusitis, nasal polyps or adenoid hypertrophy. 1. Ordinary rhinitis: Upper airway cough syndrome caused by ordinary rhinitis can be treated by applying antihistamines (loratadine, cetirizine), decongestants (furosemide nasal drops, xylazine nasal drops) and other drugs. 2. Allergic rhinitis: allergic rhinitis is mainly caused by contact with allergens, its treatment should firstly be detached from the allergens, and secondly, it can be treated with anti-allergic drugs (loratadine, cyproheptadine), glucocorticosteroids (dexamethasone, budesonide) and so on. 3. Bacterial rhinitis: Bacterial rhinitis can be treated by anti-infective treatment, such as commonly used cephalosporin antibiotics, roxithromycin and so on. If there are obvious symptoms of nasal congestion, blood reducing agents can be applied, such as furosemide nasal drops, Seroquel nasal drops and so on. 4. Nasal polyps or adenoid hypertrophy: If the upper airway cough syndrome is caused by nasal polyps or adenoid hypertrophy, it can be treated by surgery, which can remove nasal polyps or adenoids to smooth the sinus drainage and correct the anatomical abnormalities of the nasal cavity and sinuses. It is recommended that the cause of upper airway cough syndrome be investigated and treated in a timely manner to avoid delays.
