What’s wrong with waking up in the morning and turning over and getting dizzy?

Dizziness when waking up in the morning and turning over is considered to be benign positional vertigo. It is mainly due to transient paroxysmal episodes of vertigo that occur when the patient’s head moves rapidly to a particular head position for a few seconds, usually less than a minute, and is mainly caused by the dislodgment of otoliths in the ear. Normal otoliths are attached to the otolithic membrane, and when a pathogenic factor causes them to dislodge, the dislodged otoliths flow with the fluid in the semicircular canals of the inner ear. When the head position changes, the otolith touches the wall of the semicircular canals, causing symptoms of dizziness. The symptoms are usually short-lived, recurring periodically, vary in duration and are self-healing, and the older the patient is, the higher the incidence of dizziness.
