The cricothyroid membrane is located between the thyroid cartilage and the cricoid cartilage, in front of which the soft thyroid gland passes through, and behind which the trachea passes through, and is surrounded by no vital structures, thus facilitating puncture. Cricothyroid puncture is used clinically as a first aid for patients with respiratory obstruction and severe respiratory distress, and can buy time for cricothyrotomy and tracheotomy. Its indications include: i. Acute upper respiratory tract obstruction. ii. Second, laryngeal dyspnea of laryngeal origin such as diphtheria, laryngeal edema. Third, severe trauma to the head and face. Fourth, tracheal intubation is contraindicated, or the condition is urgent, need to quickly open the airway.
