How to expel retained fetal membranes

How to expel the retained fetal membranes depends on how much is left, small area can be expelled on its own, while larger area can be expelled by drugs to promote contraction, or by performing a hysterectomy.

If the area of retained fetal membranes is small, most of them can be expelled on their own. If the bleeding is not much, you can choose to use drugs to promote contractions, or intravenous uterotonin, so as to promote uterine contractions, with the uterine contractions, the fetal membranes may be expelled together.

If the residual fetal membranes are large and cause postpartum hemorrhage and infection, the uterus needs to be cleansed, and the residual fetal membranes will be removed by treating the uterine cavity.

Usually after 40 days after delivery, if the discharge is still persistent and there is obvious abdominal pain, it is recommended to take an ultrasound examination in time to better understand the internal condition of the uterus.
