Why are there grooves in the stool?

Grooves in the stool may be due to diseases such as internal hemorrhoids, rectal polyps, and rectal cancer.
1. Internal hemorrhoids: a common anorectal disease that involves swollen veins in the anus and rectum. Internal hemorrhoids are located in the rectum and can protrude into the rectum, which can cause stool grooves during bowel movements, and are usually accompanied by painless bleeding, itching, and discomfort during bowel movements.
2. Rectal polyp: It is a proliferative tissue of rectal mucosa protruding into the intestinal lumen, which is caused by the abnormal proliferation of certain cells, and it can also cause bowel grooves during bowel movement. Most patients with rectal polyps do not have obvious symptoms, and some of them may show painless blood in stool, change of bowel habit and other symptoms.
3. Rectal cancer: It is the cancer between the junction of sigmoid colon and rectum and the dentate line, which can also cause stool grooves in the stool, usually accompanied by symptoms such as blood in stool, change of bowel habit, change of stool shape, abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort, and weight loss.
There are many other causes of grooves in the stool, which should be taken seriously, and prompt medical attention should be given to identify the cause of the disease and further management or treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
