Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disease characterized by degeneration and destruction of articular cartilage and osteophytes. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthropathy and proliferative osteoarthritis, with different names derived from the pathological manifestations of arthropathy, i.e., the presence of degenerative cartilage accompanied by the formation of new bone. The incidence of this disease increases with age and is a common joint disease in the elderly. A preliminary epidemiological survey showed that the prevalence of osteoarthritis of the knee in our population is 9.56%, and 78.5% in people over 60 years of age, similar to that in Western countries. Osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disease in which the main changes are degenerative changes of the cartilage surfaces of the joints and secondary osteophytes. The main manifestations are joint pain and immobility. X-rays show narrowing of the joint space, dense subchondral bone, fractured trabeculae, sclerosis and cystic changes. There is lip-like hyperplasia at the edge of the joint. In the later stage, the bone ends are deformed and the joint surface is uneven. Intra-articular cartilage spalling, bone fragmentation into the joint, formation of intra-articular free bodies: 1. Severe pain. Analgesic treatment such as anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents and patches with significant efficacy are available. 2, rest and braking. 3.Physical therapy, so as to achieve analgesia and relief of symptoms. 4, chronic osteoarthritis recurrent pain, affecting the patient’s work and life, can be treated with surgery. The occurrence of osteoarthritis is closely related to age, the age below 45 years old, the incidence of 2-3%; 45 to 64 years old for 24.5-30%, more than 65 years old can be as high as 58-68%, the most common parts of the order of the interphalangeal joints, thumb carpometacarpal joints, femoral tibial joints and hip joints. Osteoarthritis can be divided into two types: primary and secondary. In primary cases, no cause can be found, and in secondary cases, osteoarthritis develops as a result of a pre-existing disease. There are many diseases, including congenital abnormalities of joint development, childhood joint pathologies, trauma, various metabolic diseases, and a variety of intra-articular inflammatory conditions that contribute to cartilage breakdown, that have a common pathway to osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is also known as “degenerative joint disease” or “proliferative osteoarthritis”. Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative arthritis, is not actually an inflammatory condition, but is primarily a degenerative condition that involves premature aging of the joints, particularly the articular cartilage. Osteoarthritis represents the aging of the joints and is therefore called age-related arthritis. The broader term osteoarthritis also includes other aseptic arthritic disorders. Osteoarthritis is a limited disorder and the systemic cause is not important.
