What’s with the edema and tightness in the calves?

There are various causes of edema and tightness in the calves, such as physiological causes (prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, etc.) and pathological causes (such as venous valvular insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis in the calves, lymphadenitis in the calves, etc.), and it is recommended to go to the hospital to do a targeted examination to clarify the causes. The common causes are as follows:

1. Physiological causes: after standing for a long time, sitting for a long time or overworking, many patients will have symptoms of edema and tightness in the calf, which can be relieved after resting in most patients.

2. Pathologic causes

(1) Lower extremity venous valve insufficiency, blood will be in the process of reflux part of the reflux, resulting in increased pressure in the distal veins, lumen expansion, excessive pressure when the liquid will seep out of the blood vessels, accumulated in the interstitial fluid, resulting in swelling, tightness.

(2) Deep vein thrombosis in the calf area, resulting in poor venous reflux in the calf area, which leads to swelling and pain in the distal lower extremity, as well as unfavorable mobility and edema and tightness.

(3) Lymphangitis in the calf area, which can also occur. Penicillin drugs can be selected for anti-infection treatment, and at the same time should be strictly bed rest, try to elevate the leg that appears to be swollen, which will help the elimination of swelling.

If the edema tightness of the calf is not relieved for a long time, or other discomforts occur, you should consult a doctor in time.
