Every year, there are a large number of sudden accidents that cause damage to the skull of many people. Without the protection of the skull, the tissues inside the skull are susceptible to external damage, and if infections and other conditions occur, normal nerve function will also be affected. Because the brain is not involved, cranial repair surgery is not as difficult as some patients think. What determines the effect of the surgery and the recovery observation period is not the maturity of the surgery technique, but the repair material chosen by the patient. Currently, there are two kinds of repair materials in cranial bone repair surgery, one is titanium mesh, which is the traditional cranial bone repair material and is widely used; the other is the emerging PEEK material, which is a kind of polymer biomaterial, and it is a safe material that is favored by the patients at present. Generally speaking, the recovery period of cranial bone repair surgery is around 2 weeks. However, each person’s condition is different and their post-operative response is different, so this time can be longer or shorter depending on the individual’s clinical care. For example, some patients using titanium mesh to repair their skulls are more sensitive to hot and cold reactions, and may need to stay in the hospital more for observation, and be discharged only after the doctor determines that there are no complications. In contrast, patients who choose PEEK material will not experience problems such as chronic pain, high subcutaneous fluid accumulation, sensitivity to hot and cold reactions, and chronic cutaneous ulcers, and thus the recovery period is a bit shorter, and will have little impact on the patient’s normal work and life in the future.
