Weight loss surgery is the light of day for treating diabetics

Currently, the number of diabetic patients in China has exceeded 110 million, ranking first in the world. And with the mature development of surgical techniques and the popularity of bariatric surgery, more and more diabetic patients are choosing to use bariatric surgery to treat type 2 diabetes, and more people are learning about the effectiveness of bariatric surgery for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Why is bariatric surgery so effective in the treatment of diabetes? This is because weight loss surgery not only reduces body weight, but also reduces insulin resistance caused by fat accumulation, reduces glucose metabolic load, and effectively improves glucose metabolism. For example, gastric bypass surgery, known as the “gold standard procedure” for diabetes, is a surgical procedure that reduces the volume of the stomach, shuts down most of the stomach’s function, and changes the structure of the intestine, thus further reducing digestion and controlling absorption. Because the gastrointestinal tract is reconstructed, the secretion of hormones in the intestinal-islet axis is altered, thereby improving glucose metabolism. Gastric bypass surgery, the “gold standard procedure” for diabetes, has 2 main advantages over traditional medical drug therapy. Case studies have found that after sugar patients have undergone bariatric surgery, the long-term complete remission rate of diabetes has reached over 80%. Diabetic patients not only get rid of taking medication and insulin to control their blood sugar, but also stop the process of diabetes and even reverse some of the complications of diabetes. The second advantage is the short treatment time. Traditional internal medicine is a lifelong treatment, which requires a lot of labor and material resources, while the hospitalization period of weight reduction surgery is about 7 days, and the operation time is 60 minutes-90 minutes, plus because of the minimally invasive technology, the patient recovers quickly and can get out of bed and walk around the day after the operation, and can live and work normally after discharge from the hospital.
