Dull pain in the middle of the chest is mostly due to myocardial ischemia, which is a pathological state. The most common cause of myocardial ischemia is coronary artery disease, which can include angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and many other types. For typical angina pectoris, patients often experience fist-sized or palm-sized range of stuffiness, pain, and discomfort in the anterior region of the lower and middle sternum during exercise, emotional excitement, satiation, and cold. Patients with angina pectoris generally have symptoms lasting 1-5 minutes, up to 15 minutes, with paroxysmal episodes, which can be relieved by rest or containing nitrate drugs. For patients with myocardial infarction, the chest pain is severe and lasts for a long time, often more than half an hour, and can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, decreased blood pressure, shock, heart failure and other symptoms, it is recommended to give an electrocardiogram, cardiac enzymes, cardiac ultrasound, and coronary imaging if necessary, to clarify the diagnosis.
