Can a poke in the eye heal on its own?

Whether or not a punctured eye can heal on its own is related to the severity of the patient’s condition. If there is no penetrating injury to the eyeball and only superficial damage to the bulbar conjunctiva, there is a possibility of self-healing. If the eye injury is more serious, and the internal structure of the eyeball is injured, timely treatment is needed, and it is generally not self-healing.
After the eye is poked, if only the bulbar conjunctiva is injured, there is no penetrating injury of any tissue, and the pain is not serious, there is a possibility of self-healing.
However, if the patient has a penetrating injury to the eyeball or an injury to the internal structures of the eye (e.g., retina, lens, vitreous etc.), accompanied by symptoms such as hemorrhage, severe pain, loss of vision or even loss of vision, it is very likely that the injury will not heal on its own, and the patient will need to receive prompt treatment such as surgical closure of the wound.
It is recommended that patients who have been poked in the eye should seek prompt medical attention to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
