Minor cleft palate in newborn babies is usually not self-healing.
1. Cleft palate is a congenital developmental abnormality, which occurs when the normal development and fusion of the germinal processes of the fetus are disturbed by certain factors in the course of development, especially in the first 12 weeks of fetal development and formation. Clinically, there are common types of soft palate clefts, incomplete cleft palate, unilateral complete cleft palate, bilateral complete cleft palate and so on.
2. A mild cleft palate in a newborn infant should be considered as having either a soft palate or an incomplete cleft palate. Either type of cleft palate is formed during fetal development and generally has no possibility of healing on its own after birth.
3. Because cleft palate can cause sucking dysfunction, cleft palate voice, affecting hearing function and jaw development, generally should be early for the comprehensive sequence of cleft palate treatment, to restore the anatomical shape and physiological function of the palate, to re-establish good palato-pharyngeal closure and to obtain normal voice.
Newborn infants with minor cleft palate should go to a medical institution in time, complete the examination, and be treated by a professional physician according to the specific situation of the child.
