What are the common oxygen therapy methods and precautions?

Oxygen is very important to the human body. Healthy people in a normal state breathe air naturally and use the oxygen in it to maintain their metabolic needs. In the case of illness or certain abnormal states, it is necessary to inhale oxygen at home or in clinics or hospitals through certain equipment. A. Commonly used methods of oxygen inhalation are: 1, nasal plugs and nasal catheter oxygen inhalation method This oxygen inhalation method is simple equipment, easy to use. The nasal plug method has single plug and double plug two kinds: single plug method choose the appropriate model plug in one side of the nasal vestibule, and close contact with the nasal cavity (the other side of the nostril open), inhalation only into the oxygen, so the oxygen concentration is more stable. Double plug method is two smaller nasal plugs placed in both nostrils at the same time, there is still a gap around the nasal plug, can breathe air at the same time, the patient is more comfortable, but the oxygen concentration is not stable enough. The nasal catheter method is to insert a catheter (commonly used catheter) through the nostrils into the back of the soft palate at the top of the nasal cavity. Nasal plug, nasal catheter oxygenation method is generally only suitable for low-flow oxygen supply, if the flow rate is relatively large, the flow rate and impact force will be very large so that people can not tolerate, and at the same time easy to cause airway mucosa dryness. 2.Mask oxygen inhalation method can be divided into open and closed mask method. Open type is to place the mask at 1~3 cm from the patient’s mouth and nose, which is suitable for children and can be used without any discomfort. The closed mask method is to put the mask tightly over the mouth and nose and fix it with elastic band, which is suitable for more serious oxygen deficiency, and the oxygen concentration can reach 40%~50%, and the feeling is more comfortable, without mucous membrane irritation and dry blowing feeling. However, the oxygen consumption is large, and there is the disadvantage of inconvenience of feeding and sputum discharge. 3.Transtracheal tube oxygen therapy is a method of oxygen supply by using a thin tube inserted into the trachea through the nasal cavity, also called endotracheal oxygen therapy. It is mainly suitable for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung fibrosis, etc. who need long-term oxygen and the effect of general oxygen therapy is not good, because the oxygen is supplied directly into the trachea by the catheter, so it can significantly improve the therapeutic effect, only a lower flow of oxygen can achieve a higher effect, and the oxygen consumption is very small. 4.Electronic pulse oxygen therapy is a new method developed in recent years, which can automatically deliver oxygen during inspiration and stop delivering oxygen during expiration through electronic pulse device. This is more in line with the physiological state of breathing, and greatly saves oxygen. It is suitable for nasal congestion, nasal catheter and endotracheal oxygen therapy. 5.Mechanical ventilation oxygenation method That is, when using various artificial ventilators for mechanical ventilation, use the oxygen supply device on the ventilator for oxygen therapy. The oxygen supply concentration (21%~100%) can be adjusted according to the needs of the disease. The oxygen source of oxygen therapy generally uses oxygen cylinders, and a pressure gauge is installed to indicate the amount of oxygen stored in the cylinder, and a flow meter is installed when oxygen is supplied to adjust the oxygen flow according to the need. There are also oxygen machines for home use, using the principle of electrolysis of water to produce oxygen, which is convenient to use. Most large hospitals now use central oxygen supply, the switch is located on the wall, more convenient. Second, the main precautions of oxygen therapy are: 1, closely observe the effect of oxygen therapy, such as respiratory distress and other symptoms to reduce or alleviate, the heartbeat is normal or close to normal, it indicates that oxygen therapy is effective. Otherwise, we should look for the reason and deal with it in time; 2. Maintaining 37℃ temperature and 95%~100% humidity in the respiratory tract is the necessary condition for the normal clearing function of mucus cilia system, so the oxygen inhalation should be through the humidification bottle and necessary heating device to prevent the dry and cold oxygen inhalation from stimulating damage to the airway mucosa, causing dry sputum and affecting the “scavenger” function of the cilia; 5. Blockage, nasal plugs, oxygen catheters, humidification and heating devices, ventilator pipeline system, etc. should be replaced and cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent cross-infection. Oxygen catheter, nasal plugs should always pay attention to check whether there is secretion blockage, and timely replacement. To ensure effective and safe oxygen therapy.
