Acupuncture is an ancient and amazing science. It originated in China and has a long history. Acupuncture and moxibustion medicine was first seen more than two thousand years ago in the book “Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine”. For more than 2,000 years, acupuncture therapy has not only been popular in China, but also spread to other countries around the world. But who actually invented acupuncture? According to legend, Fuxi, the founder of Chinese civilization, was the inventor of acupuncture and moxibustion in Chinese medicine, and he tasted a hundred medicines and made nine needles. However, this is only a legend, and more people believe that acupuncture is not the work of one person. It was formed in the course of a long history, and its theory was gradually refined with the accumulation of clinical medical experience. According to archaeological findings, it is speculated that in ancient times, when people were hit by some sharp and hard objects, such as stones and thorns, they would experience unexpected pain relief. So the ancient people began to consciously use some sharp stones to prick certain parts of the body or artificially pierce the body to make it bleed, in order to relieve pain. The original tool for needling was mentioned several times in ancient books as a stone needle, called a stone. This stone appeared about 8,000 to 4,000 years ago in the Neolithic period, equivalent to the late clan communal system, people have mastered the digging, grinding technology, to produce some more delicate, suitable for stabbing the body to treat diseases, this stone tool is the oldest medical tools – stone. This stone tool is the oldest medical tool – acupuncture stone. At that time, acupuncture stone was also more commonly used in surgery for septic infection, so it was also called needle stone. The “Shanhaijing” says: “There is a stone like jade, which can be used as a needle”, which is an early record about stone needle. China has found the actual stone in archaeology. It can be said that the stone is the basis and predecessor of the later knife needle tools. By the Qin and Han dynasties, needle tools have been gradually developed from stone needles, bone needles, bamboo needles to metal needles. The development of metal needles to the present, experienced copper, iron, silver, alloy and stainless steel needles and other stages. The improvement of needle tools has expanded the scope of acupuncture treatment, improved the therapeutic effect, and promoted the development of acupuncture. The discovery and use of fire opened a new era in human history, and also created the necessary conditions for the creation of moxibustion. In the process of using fire, people found that the pain of a certain part of the body was relieved or removed by the burning and baking of fire, and then learned to use animal skins or bark wrapped in hot stones, sand and soil for local ironing, and gradually developed to ignite branches or weeds baking, hot smoke to treat diseases, which is the origin of moxibustion. After a long period of exploration, the moxa leaf, which is easily combustible and has the effect of warming the meridians, was chosen as the main material for moxibustion treatment, and was used for local warming and stimulation on the body surface, thus making moxibustion, like acupuncture, an important method of disease prevention and treatment. Because of its medicinal efficacy, easy burning, abundant resources, and easy processing and storage, moxa has gradually become the most important raw material for moxibustion treatment. The acupuncture that has accompanied mankind for thousands of years, like the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, the earliest classical work of Chinese medicine, is no longer traceable by anyone’s hand. However, it is fortunate that acupuncture has been handed down to the present day and is still being used to protect our health.
