The hazards of indwelling needle mainly include infection, phlebitis, subcutaneous hematoma and so on.
1. Infection: If the skin around the puncture point of the needle is not dry and no attention is paid to the hygienic care around the puncture point, it may cause the patient’s local vascular infection, and if the bacteria enter the bloodstream, it may also cause bacteremia or sepsis.
2. Phlebitis: If the needle is placed in the blood vessel for a long time, it will stimulate the patient’s venous blood vessels for a long time, which will lead to phlebitis. Patients often show local pain and itching around the veins, swelling.
3. Subcutaneous hematoma: If the needle puncture process, due to improper operation of the needle puncture blood vessels will cause subcutaneous hematoma.
The indwelling needle can avoid the pain caused by frequent needling, and is widely used in the clinic for patients who need continuous intravenous infusion for many days, but we should pay attention to the care of the indwelling needle to avoid the adverse consequences. In addition, all kinds of indwelling needles have a time limit for use (indwelling), and should try to avoid exceeding the indwelling time.
