Can colon cancer be cured after surgery for metastatic liver cancer?

Most patients with liver metastasis of colon cancer cannot be cured, and can only prolong survival and improve patients’ quality of life through effective treatment. A few patients can be clinically cured through surgery and other comprehensive treatments. Colon cancer combined with liver metastasis is in advanced stage and the symptoms are usually more serious. Complications may occur after colon cancer metastasis liver surgery, such as biliary fistula, bleeding, fluid accumulation and infection. It is more difficult to cure patients with colon cancer combined with liver metastasis, and the prognosis is extremely poor, usually through chemotherapy, hepatic artery perfusion chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, etc., which can effectively prolong the survival period of patients. For a few patients with mild symptoms and early occurrence, without other organ metastasis, surgical resection of primary and metastatic foci and postoperative combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy can be performed to kill tumor cells. Therefore, after colon cancer liver metastasis is diagnosed, patients should go to regular hospitals for treatment actively. Only active treatment can effectively prolong the survival period of patients.
