Patients who experience a thumping heart while climbing stairs may be considered to have tachycardia or premature beats, possibly because they have coronary angina or a degree of heart failure that predisposes them to this similar discomfort. In addition, some patients may have symptoms of cardiac discomfort after activity due to hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, anemia, or cardiomyopathy. Patients who want to further clarify the diagnosis are advised to have an ambulatory electrocardiogram, which helps to document whether the patient’s conscious heartbeat is premature or myocardial ischemia. At the same time, cardiac ultrasound, BNP, lung CT, blood routine, thyroid function and serum ion can be checked again to help further clarify the diagnosis.
