According to the prevalence rate of psoriasis in six cities of China in 2008, which was 0.47%, it is estimated that there are more than 6 million psoriasis patients in China. It is generally believed that the prevalence rates of men and women are basically the same, and women are slightly lower than men, so it is projected that there are more than 3 million female psoriasis patients in China. Psoriasis is seldom affected by menstruation, but there are still a few female patients whose lesions worsen before and after menstruation, which may be related to the low level of estrogen and progesterone in the body before and after menstruation. The secretion of estrogen in women’s body will increase with the maturation of follicular development. Before ovulation, the secretion of estrogen can reach a peak, and the secretion gradually decreases after ovulation, but it will increase again after seven or eight days of ovulation, and the level of estrogen will quickly drop to the lowest level until the next physiological period. At this time, the function and number of lymphocytes in the patient’s body have a mild decline, so the microcirculation of psoriasis patients is impaired, and the endocrine system is affected, which leads to the deterioration of psoriasis lesions. Recommendations There are no special contraindications for female patients to be treated during the period of menstrual leave. Whether it is systemic treatment, phototherapy or topical medication, it is sufficient to treat the disease as usual without stopping or reducing the dosage of the medication.
