What is the reason for getting schistosomiasis?

Schistosomiasis is a contagious disease caused by infection with schistosomes. It is mainly caused by the parasitism of schistosomes in the human portal system, causing related clinical symptoms, and the main sources of infection are the patient and the preserved host. People or animals infected with schistosomes may be infected with schistosomes when they excrete stool containing eggs into water sources where there are professional snails, and when other people come into contact with infected water. The clinical manifestations of schistosomiasis are mainly in the acute and chronic stages. In the acute stage, the main manifestation is fever with diarrhea, and some patients may have clinical symptoms of liver enlargement, which require prompt treatment. If not treated, some clinical symptoms will gradually improve, thus entering the chronic phase. The chronic phase of schistosomiasis is mainly characterized by hepatosplenomegaly or chronic diarrhea, and some patients may develop cirrhosis, ascites, and giant spleen.
